Montauk Branch

The article was written in conjunction with the July 13 trip. The train travelled the Main Line Branch to Beth Interlocking, MP 26.8, just east of Bethpage. The train left the Main Line and got on the Central Branch to Babylon and proceeded to Montauk.

The branch extends from Long Island City to Montauk. Photos are arranged in an easterly direction. [The branch DOESN'T go to Hunterspoint Avenue.] The section between Long Island City and Jamaica was sold to the New York & Atlantic Railroad, a freight operation. This section was rarely used and costly to maintain.

Main Line Branch photos are in the Member's Gallery [LIRR/Main Line Branch] even though the train traversed the Montauk Branch Line.

The railroad issues two public timetables for the Branch. The stations between New York and Babylon are in the "Babylon Branch" timetable. The stations between Babylon and Montauk are in the "Montauk Branch" timetable.
