Come with us for a weekend of railroading and lake cruising in the fabled Adirondack Mountains of upper New York State. As an extra we throw in a RR ride in the Catskill Mountains as well. We leave Grand Central Terminal Friday and ride north on Metro-North to Poughkeepsie where our deluxe, rest-room equipped coach awaits us. Our first stop is for lunch, on your own. Next it's the DELAWARE AND ULSTER RAILROAD at Arkville in the Catskills. We step back in time for a liesurely ride along the pristine waters of the East Branch of the Delaware River amid mountain scenery. Reboarding our coach we make a dinner stop, on your own, after which we reach the SUPER-8 MOTEL in Amsterdam, NY for THREE night stop. A SUPER START CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST is included each morning. Saturday finds us at the beautifully restored, NY Central-built, Utica Union Station. We board the ADIRONDACK SCENIC RAILWAY'S train to Thendara on the ex-NY Central's Adirondack Division. A short shuttle bus ride takes us to Old Forge in time for lunch, on your own. Now aboard the ADIRONDACK BOAT CRUISES on the Fulton Chain of Lakes. This is one of the longest fresh water mail routes left in the country, sailing through wilderness beauty. We return by train and bus to Utica and Amsterdam, with dinner on the way, on your own. Sunday we head to Lake Placid for a round trip rail ride to Saranac Lake. Time to stroll around the pictureque villages of Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. Upon our return we have the TRADITIONAL TRIP BANQUET at PASQUALLI'S RESTAURANT in Amsterdam. A soup-to=nuts repast with choice of Chicken Parmagiana, Fresh Broiled Haddock or Prime Ribs. Salad, Bread, Veggies, Coffee, Tea and Dessert included. Alcoholic drinks are on your own. Monday we check out of our motel and ride to Lake George to board the vessel "Lac du Saint Sacrement" for a luncheon buffet cruise. (Note:- This is a change from the Monday plan announced in the distributed trip flyer, necessary because the Upper Hudson River Railroad will not be operating on that day.) Finally we arrive at Albany and ride Amtrak back to Penn Station in NYC. |
