Hudson Tower
Passing the tower at 60 mph. The sign in the lower right hand corner reads: Jersey City 8.3 miles. Penn Station 7.2 miles. This is where the “new” line to Penn station diverged from the original line to Jersey City. It also was the location of Manhattan Transfer, where the engine change from steam to electric occurred. Until Newark Penn Station was built, passengers changed here for Hudson Tube trains to lower Manhattan.
This is the location where the Pennsylvania Railroad ran to Jersey City. After Penn Station was constructed, a new numbering system was implemented where Penn Station is MP 0 and Hudson is MP 7.2
